I am the teacher of the student particpants in this action research study. There will be a total of 22 participants in
this action research study, which included the 22 students in my 6th grade Bilingual Math class, first block. This class
was chosen because it is a close representration to our campus’ bilingual population, academically and ethically.
This class was also chosen because the the 90 minutes of instruction is uninterrupted. There are a total of 22 students
in this 6th grade bilingual class with 11 females and 11 males. One-hundred percent of my students are Hispanic. The
majority of my students are eager to learn and participate, however, there are a few who do not participate or show
any effort. The students participating in this action research study were in the middle of their 4th grade year when the
pandemic shut down schools across the nation. Majority of my students were virtual learners for a year and half, in
which they admitted to not attending class virtually. Most of my students said that they are not good in math. With
that mindset and virtual learning, my students struggle with academic math vocabulary and solving word problems
